Designing the Fall Border: Jewel Tones, Grasses, and Curated Wild
As you close out summer, the smart move is to spec your fall installs now. Autumn is when landscape designers earn repeat clients — the border that peaks in October, holds structure through frost, and reads as intentional rather than an afterthought. The palettes, textures, and layering trends shaping the coming season all point to the same thing: book early and book deliberately. Here's how to build the fall border, and what to reserve on our benches to pull it off.
Lead with jewel tones
The soft, muted palettes of the last few years are giving way to saturation. For the coming season, expect fiery reds, velvety plums, rich burgundies, and emerald greens to anchor the border.
